Special Distance learning opportunity
PORTRAIT DRAWING INTENSIVE
with
DAN THOMPSON
Friday, Saturday & Sunday
June 5, 6 & 7, 2020
Time to be determined
$400+ $25 registration fee
This remote, distance learning course will be structured as a three—day long, self portrait intensive. Participants will be able to study within the privacy of their own studios while simultaneously inhabiting the studio of the instructor. Beginning with a lecture and/or a video lesson, taped especially for participants in the course, the class will offer students a unique opportunity to engage, interpret and create a compelling drawing of the head and shoulders from life. Throughout the development of the long pose drawing, participants will be guided—by means of descriptions and demonstrations—on planar head landmarks, light and tonal effects on the flesh, editing, shape interpretation, construction of the head & neck and how perspective alters the appearance of structure, translating facial information through dynamic mark making and expressive feature drawing. Criticism will take the form of live video group critiques (for planning and troubleshooting) and in one on one exchanges within the afternoon of each day's session. All skill levels are welcome.
