THE ATELIER

Picture
Drawing and painting are skills that we believe anyone can learn. Becoming good at either requires instruction and plenty of practice. We strive to give our students the opportunity for both. Our curriculum is designed to provide fundamental and advanced skills in drawing and painting using a targeted, systematic approach. Students work primarily from life beginning with a unique drawing foundations course and advance to drawing from the cast, drapery studies, working from The Charles Bargue Drawing Course, the still-life, and finally, the live figure. Practice through repetition, logical thinking and hard work, ensures students will gain knowledge, understanding and confidence by producing excellent works of art.

ATELIER PROGRAMS

The adult/teen atelier is based upon the teaching methods of the nineteenth-century academic tradition of drawing and painting from life. It is for the student who has serious intentions for mastering draftsmanship and painting. The curriculum is designed to provide fundamental and advanced skills in drawing, using a targeted, systematic approach. Students learn the academic skills needed to see and render light and form. Linear perspective, measuring proportions, scale and composition are taught and practiced until mastered. Students study from the cast, the drapery study, the still-life, the live figure, and complete master copies from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course and other Master Drawings and paintings. Students will receive individual and group demonstration, instruction and critique from our faculty.
